Education is the foundation of the political, social, and economic development of any country. A strong education system enables the nation to achieve its national goals. Pakistan as a developing country has faced many critical crises in education from its early days. That’s why the education system is failed to deliver according to the expectations of the people. There are various factors responsible for this situation. I am going to describe a few of them below.

  • Lack of Budget
  • Lack of policy implementation
  • Lack of quality Teacher
  • Poor Examination system

1. Lack of budget/ resources:

Our governments have no interest in the education sector. They spend most budget on infrastructure, neglecting the education system. Education resources such as free books, and other physical facilities are necessary for the smooth running of the education system. There are despairingly no facilities for books, libraries, and other reading material in many educational institutions in our country. Even some rural areas of Pakistan do not have any educational institutes. Besides, all these classes are overcrowded, and libraries are ill-equipped. This entire situation resulted in a poor education system.

2. Lack of policy implementation:

Since the early days of Pakistan, a number of education policies were created. But due to interest these policies were never implemented in their true spirits. There has been a problem of corruption, lack of funds, and inconsistency of policies by different political regimes in Pakistan. Moreover, overall, in policy formulation teachers have been ignored. All these factors also lead to the worst situation of the education system in Pakistan.

3. Lack of quality teachers:

The teacher is the backbone of the education system. The quality of teachers in institutes of Pakistan is not up to the mark. According to a survey conducted by UNESCO, the quality of teachers in Pakistan is very low. This situation is even worse in rural areas of Pakistan where there is no teacher in many schools. Teachers don’t adapt new techniques and strategies in their methodology of teaching. They follow traditional methods of teachers.

4. Poor Examination system:

The examination is the evaluation of the student’s learning. It should be based on the quantitative and qualitative assessment of students’ comprehension. The main purpose of exams is to assess the performance of students. In Pakistan, the examination system is outdated. It only measures the memory of the student. It does not assess all aspects of learning. This promotes rote learning in students only to get higher marks than other students. Due to this, they don’t Learn from their study. This is also one of the drawbacks of the education system in Pakistan.
